The YoungCraze Index is our monthly ranking of the trends that are genuinely crossing over from runways and feeds into what people are wearing and buying. Each month our editors weigh the fall/winter runway collections, fashion press coverage and what we see on social media, then rank the ten trends with the most momentum.
For each trend you get why it’s hot, how long we think it will last, and the single piece we’d buy to try it. Here is October 2026.
1. Soft Pink
Status: peaking. After a summer of turquoise, dusty and blush pink took over the fall collections, from Chanel to Valentino. It’s the easiest trend on this list to wear because a single knit or bag does the job, and it pairs naturally with fall’s browns and greys.
Staying power: high through winter, especially worn with red.
2. The Skirt Suit
Status: rising. The matching blazer and knee-length skirt was the defining silhouette of the fall shows, replacing the oversized pantsuit. Expect it everywhere from offices to holiday parties.
Staying power: high; tailoring cycles last years, not months.
3. Suede Boots
Status: peaking. Knee-high and slouchy western suede boots are this season’s most versatile shoe, working with skirts, dresses and jeans alike.
Staying power: high; suede returns every fall.
4. The Librarian Look
Status: rising fast. Fashion’s librarian era (cardigans over collared shirts, knee-length skirts, loafers, glasses as an accessory) is the polished cousin of dark academia, and it’s having its biggest moment yet.
Staying power: medium to high.
5. Faux Fur Coats
Status: steady. Plush, vintage-inspired outerwear is back for another winter. Faux fur and shearling textures keep the look accessible.
Staying power: high for winter 2026.
6. Tartan and Check
Status: rising. Check prints flooded the Paris shows, and with the holidays approaching, tartan only gets stronger. This year’s plaids are playful rather than preppy.
Staying power: high through December.
7. Dark Romance
Status: rising. Moody florals, black lace, bows and ruffles: romantic goth without the costume feel. Halloween season gives it an extra push.
Staying power: medium.
8. Velvet
Status: early. Velvet usually waits for the holidays, but it’s showing up from the first cold snap this year. It will peak in December.
Staying power: high into party season.
9. ’90s Slip Dresses and Baggy Jeans
Status: steady. The ’90s revival keeps rolling, led by the bias-cut slip dress and loose, lived-in light-wash denim. Layer slips over tees and under knits for fall.
Staying power: high; this cycle has years left.
10. Fringe
Status: niche but rising. Fringe from every era (twenties, sixties, seventies) walked the runways. In real life, one fringed bag or jacket is enough.
Staying power: medium; fun for a season.
Cooling Off
Head-to-toe sheer: the industry is moving from fully see-through looks to more opaque pieces with sheer details.
Shapeless minimalism: oversized, structureless outfits are giving way to defined waists, peplums and tailoring.
How the Index Works
The YoungCraze Index is an editorial ranking, updated monthly. We look at which trends appeared across many runway collections, which are being covered widely by fashion press, and which we see spreading on social media and in shops. ‘Status’ describes momentum: early, rising, peaking, steady or cooling. Check back in November for the next edition.
